Brow Lift
Brow Lift Procedure
Brow lift surgery is an invasive procedure that cosmetically corrects sagging in the forehead skin, upper eyelids, and eyebrows. It reverses the aging process by virtually erasing wrinkles and deep creases caused by years of facial expressions, environmental effects or inherited traits such as lowbrow or other problems.
Techniques of the procedures:
Our plastic surgeon will maneuver tissues and remove segments of muscles and skin that are responsible for the wrinkles or deep frown. The use of endoscopic or non-endoscopic procedures will be determined by the surgeon on initial physical evaluation.
Procedures include:
- Non-endoscopic limited incision browlift- using incisions in the temple with an orbital rim release and soft tissue fixation.
- Coronal browlift
- Endoscopic browlift with internal fixation
- Transblepharoplasty browlift
Procedures are done under local anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Scars are kept hidden under the hairline and not visible.
Brow Lift Consultation – what to expect?
There are many variables that affect the appearance of the eyebrow and eye area. Initial assessment includes asking about your previous medical history, such as previous facial surgeries and underlying conditions. An old photograph can be handy in trying to compare then and now appearances. Our surgeons will evaluate your entire forehead region, including your upper eyelids, paying attention to the muscles. He will request you to make facial expressions to show asymmetries and assess how to go about helping you.
Preparation for your browlift:
As with other surgeries, you will need to make some adjustments to your lifestyle to get an excellent outcome. You may have to quit smoking for at least 2 weeks, and abstain from drinking alcohol for a few days. Some medications will result to adverse reactions, so you need to inform your surgeon about them. Some examples are aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs. These drugs can increase bleeding and should be avoided.
Brow Lift- day of operation:
Brow lifts can be done as an outpatient day surgery or admitted for 1 day as an inpatient. Your surgery can be completed within 2 -3 hours and recuperate at home. You will need to bring someone along with you to drive you home, and if you live alone, stay with you for the first night or two. Once the operation has ended, the incisions will be closed with stitches or staples and a soft sterilized bandage applied to your face.
After a Brow Lift - What to Expect
Recovery will vary according to the procedure done. Post-operative care is routine with analgesics to control headache. Head is kept elevated and cold packs are applied to the eyes then follow-ups after 24 to 48 hours for dressing and wound inspection. Scalp stitches or staples can be removed in 1 week.
There will be some swelling and bruising that might affect other parts of your face such as the cheeks and eyes in the early days immediately post-operatively. These will be gone in about a week.
You might experience itching, numbness or tingling sensation in the area. This can last for a few months and will subside over time.
Most patients can return to work within 10 days, depending on the procedure done and your own personal rate of recovery.
